Chicago — The Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago ("LAGBAC") will invite festival-goers to participate in mock same-sex marriages celebrated by politicians including State Representative Sara Feigenholtz and others next weekend, August 11 and 12, 2012, at the Halsted Market Days street festival.
All couples, same-sex or otherwise, are welcome to participate in the "ceremonies" which will be held at 3:00 p.m. on both days at the LAGBAC booth at the festival. "The faux marriages are a great way to call attention to and celebrate marriage equality," said LAGBAC President, John Litchfield.
Participants need only to arrive at the LAGBAC booth, expected to be located on the 3300 block of North Halsted between Roscoe and School Streets before 3:00 p.m. on either day to sign up.
LAGBAC is a professional organization of lawyers, judges, law students and legal professionals. Rooted in the common goals of mutual respect and tolerance, LAGBAC offers a vast array of networking and professional development opportunities to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning legal community. Through its educational initiatives, LAGBAC seeks to increase the awareness of the public, the legal profession, and the judicial system about legal issues of particular concern to the LGBTIQ community. More information about LAGBAC is available at www.lagbac.org .
