Newly installed state Rep. Yoni Pizerthe first openly gay representative of Illinois' 12th District, which includes Gold Coast, Near North, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lake View and Buena Parkconceded to Margaret Croke in the race for 12th District state representative on March 18.
"I congratulate Margaret Croke on her victory and a hard-fought campaign," said Pizer, who succeeded state Sen. Sara Feigenholtz. "I decided to step up and run because I believe strongly that representation matters. I was humbled and honored to be appointed the first-ever openly gay representative of the 12th District, which includes the historically LGBTQ community of Boystown. I intend to work with Representative-Elect Croke to ensure that it receives the representation we need and deserve."
Pizer thanked his endorsers, including Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot; U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin ( D-Wisconsin ); Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky; Congressman Mike Quigley; Feigenholtz; state Reps. Kelly Cassidy, Lamont J. Robinson, Jonathan Carrol, Sam Yingling, Greg Harris and Ann Williams; Chicago Ald. Tom Tunney, Scott Waguespack, Michele Smith, Andre Vasquez and Walter Burnett; MWRD Commissioner Debra Shore; Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison; Ambassador Andrew Schapiro; the Chicago Sun-Times editorial board; Personal PAC; Victory Fund; and Equality Illinois.
In addition to serving as community liaison for Quigley and running two small businesses, Pizer has been a grassroots organizer for Democratic presidential candidates for several decades. Pizer lives with his husband, Brad Lippitz, in East Lake View, where they have raised their two sons. |
