'The other night in London, Mariah [Carey] experienced a first—she sang and shook everything the good Lord gave her in a gay club,' reports Liz Smith in a recent column. 'The boys, who appreciate all aspects of Mariah's career, including the hilarious Glitter, went crazy for her. Her reception was so enthusiastic that she plans to pit-stop at other gay spots abroad and over here.'

Well, if Mariah enjoys CAREY-ing on in front of the gay boys, she should try scoring a coveted guest spot on Will & Grace—God knows everyone else in the music industry is doing it. Michael Musto reports that Justin Timberlake will be playing a 'homosexual con artist' on and upcoming episode of the NBC sitcom, and Out.com says Britney Spears is mulling over a cameo role on the show to coincide with her new album, set to drop this September.

And then there's Madge, who will be playing 'Karen's' (Megan Mullally) roommate on a much ballyhooed episode during May sweeps. According to Out.com, 'the audience went wild at the Tuesday night taping of Will & Grace when the evening's guest star [Madonna] was revealed. The crowd wouldn't stop cheering when the diva made her entrance. Finally, the bisexual Mullally grabbed the microphone. 'I lover her,' she said of Madonna. 'I lover her too,' chirped Madge, who sported a golden-locked wig for the episode.'

New York Magazine's Intelligencer column says that Sandra Bernhard joined Madonna on the set, 'even shouting out a few suggestions on what to do, and at one point instructing a makeup person to remove lipstick from Madonna's teeth.' Once bitter enemies, the girls are once again thick as thieves (their kids play together at the Kabbalah Centre, tattles the Intelligencer). Our source says Madonna was perfectly behaved during her taping. The only diva-like moment came when she saw the outfits that wardrobe had selected for her. She decided to wear her own Dolce & Gabbana clothes instead.'

Did you catch Cher the other night on Entertainment Tonight when she was asked if she 'like every other American' was tuning into the news networks for updates on the war. Cher's response: 'I absolutely will not ... I don't like the way the news is portraying it. It's like they are portraying it like the ultimate reality show. I just think it's cheap.'

Thata girl, you tell 'em. (Let's just hope Miss Cher, at the very least, picks up a newspaper now and again.). Meanwhile, Cher has been promoting the hell out her televised concert, Cher: The Farewell Tour, which aired April 8 on the peacock network. Liz Smith reports Cher insisted on changing her clothes, her wig and her jewels for each and every interview during the concert's exhaustive press junket. 'This star understands the importance of visual variety. And she also manages to give fresh answer to tired questions.' Again: Thata girl, Cher!

'Upside Down: Wrong Turns, Right Turns and the Road Ahead,' is the title of Diana Ross' upcoming memoir, released this spring by HarperCollins, which will reportedly offer a 'tough look at the recent heartaches in her life' including her Dec. 30 drunk driving arrest, the breakup of her marriage, her disastrous Supremes reunion tour. (Financial terms of the book deal were not disclosed.) Miss Ross has agreed to do a one-hour interview, scheduled to air in May on the Fox Television Network. Here's hoping Ross has the famous Whitney Houston/Diane Sawyer interview on constant repeat play and is taking notes . ...

Random Notes:

Yes, that's Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing, Ghost) staring in 'Reign,' the latest video from rapper Ja Rule. Swayze plays an 'overzealous police officer' who is investigating Ja Rule for money laundering, which parallels the real-life events that have been plaguing the rapper for some time now.

Un-break her Heart: Toni Braxton has split with Arista Records and has signed with Blackground Records, according to Billboard.com . Universal-distributed Blackground has tentative plans to issue a new Braxton album Sept. 16, preceded by a new single in June or July. Arista executives reportedly had 'no comment' on Braxton's departure. In the meantime, look for the 35-year- old Grammy winner to star in a 9-month stint in Broadway's Aida, beginning mid-May.

Reloaded: Paul Oakenfold has remixed the Dave Matthews Band's 'When the World Ends' for the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack. Please, Please Tell Me Now ... Is there something I should Know? Why, yes there is, if you're a Duran Duran fan: 'Duran Duran: The Singles Box 81-85,' a 13-CD set compiling all of DDs singles will be released June 10 by Capitol. Look for the hits to be packaged in replications of the original single sleeves, and also be on the look out for some rare, B-Sides to be included in the box set. Famous Amos: According to the Intelligencer column, you can add Tori Amos to the list of celebrities with an unusual demand or two. She likes water and tulips to be waiting for her in her dressing room (not so unusual) but she also insists on two boxes of Famous Amos (get it?) Chocolate chip cookies (500 cookies for a two-hour gig).

End Quote No. 1: 'I bump into these [American] girls and they are, like, really not interested,' says Robbie Williams to VH1.com . 'The next time I see them, they are like, 'Hey nice to meet you, Robbie!' So I've been told, 'That girl 'googled' you, because she knows how you are now.' Hurray for 'googling'! Science got me laid.'

End Quote No. 2: 'She's a pussy,' says Kelly Osbourne about Christina AguileraHeat Magazine, as quoted by Undercover.com . 'She has a mouth on her, but she's all talk. She only does it because she always has a security guard around to punch anyone she gets in a fight with. She made out like she had started a fight with me, to make herself look cool. She's like a f*cking feather. I could pick her up and chuck her across the room.' Osbourne said the pair had a falling out after she spat on Aguilera's car. ... I think it's more the fact that we both like to be bitches, than me really not liking her,' added Osbourne.
