Nothing to cure: putting an end to so-called "conversion therapies" for LGBTI people

Strasbourg, 16 Feb. 2023 "So-called "conversion therapies" continue to take place across Europe despite the profound and long-lasting harmful effects that these practices have on LGBTI people", says Dunja Mijatovia, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, in her Human Rights Comment published today.
"I call on member states to adopt a comprehensive, human rights-based approach to eliminating conversion practices. There is an increased awareness in Council of Europe member states about these practices and their harmful impact on LGBTI people and several legal bans have been adopted or are being considered (currently in Belgium, Cyprus, Ireland, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland and the UK)".
