Emanuel, CDPH unveil health plan

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Department of Public Health ( CDPH ) announced a new four-year plan that aims to improve the health and well-being of Chicagoans.

Healthy Chicago 2.0 is composed of strategies for CDPH and its partners to address health disparities facing some neighborhoods and communities. Building on 2011's Healthy Chicago plan, the new strategies outlined in the plan address traditional health issues as well as systemic issues associated with poor health, including housing, education and transportation.

CDPH will also hold a series of town hall meetings during May ( including at Lake View's Center on Halsted on Wed., May 4 ) to engage residents in the implementation of the plan. Residents will be able to learn about the plan and ways they can become more involved in improving the health of their neighborhoods.

Rutherford heads the Pontiac, Illinois-based Global Relations Travel Club. He has traveled to all seven continents and many countries, including Tibet, Kenya and Brazil. He is also a master scuba diver.

Global Relations will head to Cuba May 21-28. Only club members may go on trips; membership is $29/year.
