New edition to tie-in with December film based on Isherwood's novel, A Single Man

Minneapolis /St. Paul, Minnesota ( 11/13/2009 ) - The University of Minnesota Press, in collaboration with the Weinstein Company, will be launching a movie tie-in edition of Christopher Isherwood's best-known novel, A Single Man, to coincide with the December release of the critically-acclaimed film of the same name, directed by Tom Ford and starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore.
With an expected in-store date of December 1, the tie-in edition has a first printing of 25,000 copies and a new website that will launch in mid-November ( www.asingleman-book.com ) . Website features are set to include reading group tools, movie news, and multimedia links in addition to general information about A Single Man and Isherwood's other titles. Through these and various other sales, advertising, and marketing efforts, the University of Minnesota Press's goal is to introduce Isherwood to a new generation of readers, as well as reintroduce his body of work to readers already familiar with the novelist.
The film A Single Man opens in U.S. theaters on December 11 ( limited ) and December 25 ( expansion ) . A Single Man, Ford's directorial debut, received rave reviews at its world premiere at the Venice Film Fest, earning an award for the best gay-themed film, and best actor for Colin Firth's lead performance. Praise for the film continued at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it closed the AFI Film Festival on November 5.
The University of Minnesota Press is proud to be the longtime publisher of Christopher Isherwood's work, from his early novels, The Memorial and Lions and Shadows, through his later and more well-known works, including Prater Violet, Down There on a Visit, and Christopher and His Kind. |
