CHICAGO ( April 7, 2015 ) — In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Catharsis Productions will host a one-night comedy event, Social Justice Stand Up: Comedy with a Conscience on Tuesday, April 28th at 9pm. at ComedySportz Chicago, 929 W. Belmont Ave. The evening's performers include headliner Hari Kondabolu, Micia Mosely and Fawzia Mirza. Catharsis Productions is a theatre and education company that uses humor to educate on sexual assault, hate speech and gender bias. Since its founding in 2000, Catharsis has delivered anti-violence programming to college, high school and military audiences over 4,000 times all over the world. Catharsis programs consistently use humor to spark difficult conversations and illuminate oppressive and violent thinking around socially charged issues.
"In all of its programs, Catharsis uses humor to educate, entertain and enlighten," says Director of Program Development Heather Imrie. "These three talented comedians are wickedly funny, progressive thinkers cut from that same cloth."
Mirza, Mosely and Kondabolu are all nationally-acclaimed comedians who will perform 10-20 minute sets of some of their most socially progressive material. The evening will be MCed by Dr. Gail Stern, Catharsis Productions Owner who met Co-Owner Christian Murphy at a comedy festival in 1999. Together, the two created SEX SIGNALS, Catharsis' initial touring education piece, which has been seen worldwide by over 1.2 million audience members.

About Hari Kondabolu
Hari Kondabolu is a Brooklyn-based, Queens-raised comic who the NYTimes has called "one of the most exciting political comics in stand-up today." In March 2014, he released his debut standup album WAITING FOR 2042 on indie-label Kill Rock Stars. Hari was a writer and correspondent on the Chris Rock-produced television show TOTALLY BIASED WITH W. KAMAU BELL on FX. He has also done standup on the LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN, CONAN, JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, and JOHN OLIVER'S NEW YORK STANDUP SHOW. His COMEDY CENTRAL PRESENTS half-hour television special debuted on the network in February 2011.
About Micia Mosely
Micia Mosely is a comedian, actress and educator who has been praised by NewYorkTheatre.com as "smart, timely and also downright hilarious." This bi-coastal black lesbian and socio-political performer earned her Ph.D. from Berkeley and has kept audiences laughing in a variety of contexts and venues. Micia wrote and starred in her one-woman show WHERE MY GIRLS AT? an off-Broadway comedy about black lesbians, which was nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award. Since 2008, she's toured her standup comedy across the nation.

Fawzia Mirza is an actor, writer and producer who uses performance, personal storytelling and comedy to break down stereotypes about race, religion, sexual orientation and gender and defy the concept of 'model minority.' She has is the creator of webseries KAM KARDASHIAN and BROWN GIRL PROBLEMS, and has starred in PLUS ONE, SUGAR HICCUP, 6 ANGRY WOMEN and more. As a Chicago stage actress, she created the solo show ME, MY MOM AND SHARMILA TAGORE, performed in solo show BRAHMAN/I at Silk Road/About Face, and helped produce the award-winning documentaries FISH OUT OF WATER and A MESSAGE FROM THE EAST.
