The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency ( CARE ) Act expired Sept. 30. While funding to provide services to HIV-positive individuals will continue in the interim, expiration removes the blueprint to future success.

Gays and lesbians ushered in Connecticut's landmark civil union law on Oct. 1, the day the statute took effect, the Hartford Courant reported.

In a groundbreaking ruling, a Pennsylvania court ruled that the lesbian partner of the biological parent of twins should have primary custody of the children. The decision, by the superior court, upheld a lower court ruling that Patricia Jones would provide a better home than her ex-partner, Ellen Boring, the children's biological mother.
