PlanetOut Inc. has acquired essentially all of the assets of LPI Media Inc., and affiliated direct marketing and publishing entities for $24 million in cash and approximately $7.1 million in seller-financed debt. LPI publishes The Advocate and OUT, the two largest circulation LGBT magazines in the U.S., as well as Advocate.com, OUT.com and related e-commerce sites.
To mark World AIDS Day ( Dec. 1 ) , Cinemax and HBO will present films that deal with AIDS in South Africa, according to an HBO press release. Orphans of Nkandla will be shown on Cinemax at 6 p.m while Yesterday, which deals with a mother with AIDS, will air on HBO at 8 p.m.
San Francisco's Department of Human Services wants to fire a child welfare supervisor accused of downloading and passing around gay S&M porn photos that starred a psychiatrist from the city's foster care program, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. Other high-ranking employees in the welfare division are also facing possible discipline for moving too slowly to stop the passing around of the pictures and for failing to report the supervisor's actions to the proper authorities.

SHE.ART Chicago Closing Temporarily
SHE.ART Chicago, the Oak Park store located at 223 South Blvd., is temporarily closing because the Water Works building is being constructed next door to the business, according to an e-mail from owner Candy Johnson.
According to the SHE.ART Web site, Oak Park commenced construction on the new building Nov. 8—a project that is scheduled to last until May 2007. The construction will include a truck ramp 15 feet from the store's front door.
