In California, the Fourth District Court of Appeal has unanimously ruled that California Lutheran High School was within its rights when it expelled two 16-year-old schoolgirls for exhibiting behavior that was "characteristic of a lesbian relationship," the Los Angeles Times reported. The court relied on a 1998 California Supreme Court ruling that said since the Boy Scouts of America was not a business, it was not subject to laws involving sexual-orientation discrimination.

In Utah, a measure that would let same-sex couples sue for wrongful-death damages has been defeated in a state senate committee, 365Gay.com reported. Part of the reason for the defeat was that two senators were worried that approving the measure would move toward legalizing same-sex marriage. The state legislature will consider five more LGBT-related bills this session, including a domestic-partner registry.
In New York City, Wall Street currency trader Ryan Pacifico claims that he received anti-gay slurs after saying he did not eat meat—and that he was fired after complaining about the insults, 365Gay.com reported. Pacifico filed a discrimination-based lawsuit against his supervisor and a fellow employee at his former firm. The papers state that Pacifico is married and not gay, and that sexual-orientation discrimination laws extend to heterosexuals.
The American Psychoanalytic Association is asking Congress to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," according to 365Gay.com . The organization, which was about 3,000 members, issued a resolution that said, in part: "It is the position of APsaA that sexual orientation is not germane to any aspect of military effectiveness, including unit cohesion, morale, recruitment or retention."
In Washington state, Sen. Ed Murray and Rep. Jamie Pedersen have sponsored a same-sex marriage bill and a measure that would expand the state's domestic-partner measure, according to 365Gay.com . The expansion of the domestic-partner law would provide all of the rights and benefits of marriage. Since the original measure went into effect, almost 5,000 couples have registered as domestic partners.
