Queer Contra Dance Chicago event April 4
Queer Contra Dance Chicago will hold its monthly dance Thursday, April 4, 6:30-9:30 p.m., in the community hall at St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square, 2649 N. Francisco Ave.
Contra dance is a form of folk dancesimilar to square dancing, but with lines of dancers rather than squares.

Chicago Philharmonic to present 'Nordic Romance'
The Chicago Philharmonic will present a night of Scandinavian music Sunday, April 21, at 7 p.m. at Northwestern University's Pick-Staiger Hall.
"Nordic Romance" will explore the folk-oriented music of Norway and Finland. In a unique twist, the musicians will assume a collaborative leadership style and present an orchestral performance without a conductor. Utilizing chamber ensemble techniques, they will collectively interpret the score.

ECC to host 2CELLOS, Gavin with Spider Saloff
Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Dr., Elgin, will host several acts in the near future.
Internationally renowned cello duo 2CELLOS (Sulic and Hauser) will perform Thursday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. Composed of classically trained cellists Luka Sulic of Yugoslavia and Stjepan Hauser of Croatia, 2CELLOS was catapulted to overnight stardom after a video of their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" went viral on YouTube in early 2011. The video has garnered more than 7 million views to date, and the acclaimed duo has performed the song on Glee, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Another upcoming performance involves James Gavin bringin in his acclaimed biography of a jazz legend to life in "Deep in a Dream: The Long Night of Chet Baker" Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. Three local jazz artistsSpider Saloff, trumpeter Art Davis and pianist Dennis Luxionwill join Gavin.
