Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Legacy
Sat. June 11 from 7-8:30 pm
Taped last month at the Center for the Performing Arts inCarmel, IN, this special from consummate showman, classic song interpreter and pianist Michael Feinstein tips its hat to "the Chairman of the Board" through performances, backed by a full orchestra, of Sinatra's most popular standards. Included are "Fly Me to the Moon," "For Once in My Life," "My Romance," "So in Love," "The Way You Look Tonight," and an innovative mash-up of "Luck, Be A Lady" from Guys and Dolls, "All I Need is a Girl" from Gypsy, and two from Bye Bye Birdie: "A Lot of Livin' to Do" and "Put On a Happy Face." In his role as ambassador of the Great American Songbook, Feinstein also takes requests from the audience, performing a medley of the Gershwin standards for which he is justly famous. Finally, he pays tribute to the woman who discovered him, Liza Minnelli, with rousing renditions of Kander & Ebb's "Maybe This Time," and "New York, New York."
Barbra Streisand: One Night Only (NEW)
Mon. June 13 from 7:30-9 pm
Barbra Streisand performs at the Village Vanguard, New York's legendary jazz club. In September 2009, 48 years after her last club appearance, a select group of fans and friends had the rare opportunity to experience Barbra in this ultimate up-close-and-personal setting. Accompanied only by piano, bass, guitar and drums, this is the artist at her most intimate.
Malt Shop Memories (NEW)
Tues. June 14 from 7:30-9:30 pm
It was a time of record hops, cars with big fins, pony tails and beehives. The future was bright and the music on the radio and in juke boxes became the soundtrack for the rest of your life. The late '50s/early '60s was an era unto itself — just between the birth of Rock 'n' Roll and the British Invasion. This special, hosted by Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell and Fabian, takes you on a magical musical journeyback to a time filled with music that makes you smile. It was a simpler, more innocent time — all about the cars, the clothes, dances and old friends...those great and irreplaceable memories. Enjoy performances by Little Anthony and the Imperials, Chris Montez, Lesley Gore, Charlie Thomas and the Drifters, Little Peggy Marsh, The Angels, Brian Hyland, The Tymes, Lenny Walsh, and more. Frankie Avalon and Chris Montez will be joining the hosts live in WTTW's studios that evening. |
