The world is changing for the better! Since Marriage Equality officially became the law of the land in 2015, other nations have followed suit, granting marriage rights to their LGBTQ citizens. Here are a few of those nations.
Gay Aussies were granted full marriage rights in December 2017, with Parliament passing legislation. This passage came three weeks after the citizens of Australia voted in favor of legalization of same-sex marriage, by a margin of 62% to 38%.
Thanks to a 393-226 vote in the Bundestag, Germany became the 15th European nation to allow same-sex couples to marry by legislation in June 2017. Chancellor Angela Merkel surprised many in her Christian Democratic Union by stating that members should vote their conscience.
These are the nations worldwide where same-sex marriages can be performed legally, according to data complied on Wikipedia.
Following the lead of neighboring nations Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, Colombia legalized same-sex marriage in April 2016 by a 6-3 vote in the nation's Constitutional Court.
Though the Catholic Church's opposition was rampant, Malta's parliament voted almost unanimously to legalize same-sex marriage in July 2017.
