CHICAGO - The Romantic Comedy Musical, Jamie and Jessie are Not Together, makes its Chicago debut on Friday, October 28th at 8PM and will run for seven days through Thursday, November 3rd at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
Shot on location in Chicago, Illinois in Fall 2010, Jamie and Jessie are Not Together is arguably the first lesbian musical feature film ever made. Written and directed by Wendy Jo Carlton, the musical numbers were co-written with Stephanie Vlcek of The Second City, and the soundtrack includes pop songs by artists such as Tegan and Sara, Stewed Tomatoes, Ripley Caine and Anomie Belle.
Financed primarily through crowd-sourcing campaigns on Kickstarter and Indie GoGo websites, Jamie and Jessie are Not Together just received the Best Feature Award in North Carolina on its international film fest circuit and has been receiving very favorable reviews. The weeklong screening at the Siskel Film Center will be its first commercial theatrical engagement before embarking on a cross-country theatrical run.
Director Carlton and many Chicago cast and crew will be in attendance on Opening Night, Friday October 28th. There will be a Q & A after the 8PM screening.
FILM SYNOPSIS:
Jamie is moving from Chicago to New York hoping to become a Broadway actress. Her best friend Jessica is bummed, because she's in love with Jamie. As moving day gets closer, Jessica tries to make Jamie jealous by dating other women. But Jessica's plan backfires, in a way she could never imagine. This is the story of two queer college girls whose codependent, loyal friendship is fraught with erotic tension. As they struggle with the gray areas of love and lust, they must figure out either how to grow together or how to grow apart.
Jamie and Jessie are Not Together is a feature film produced by Juicy Planet Pictures. Producer Anne T. Hanson and Executive Producer Catherine Halley.
