The University of Illinois at Chicago ( UIC ) held its annual Lavender Graduation April 28. With 55 students participating from the graduate and undergraduate schools, it was UIC's largest graduating class to date.
Approximately 140 guests attended, including the upper-echelon administrators at the school. C.C. Carter was the keynote speaker.
Jane Addams Hull House Museum received a 2012 Ally Award for consistently promoting diverse LGBTQ histories and voices through exciting programs like the SEX +++ documentary film series and the "Make Out Not War" button campaign as well as for its ongoing recognition of ways that the multiple and overlapping identities of race, ethnicity, immigration status, gender identity and sexual orientation impact culture.
Stephanie Whitaker received the individual Ally Award of 2012 for her work on everything from program planning to student support. She was a major supporter of the Safe Zone program, including the launch of an African-American safe zone. She was also recognized for consistently looking out for underrepresented students on campus, especially students of color.
