Lakeside Pride has now gone one step further and has formed Chicago's first GLBT orchestra. The string ensemble, under the direction of Kim Diehnelt, will showcase Bach, Grieg and Copland at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport, on June 18 at 3 p.m. Concert tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
Dienhelt has extensive musical experience. After studies in clarinet and composition, she trained as a conductor in Finland and Switzerland. Diehnelt founded the Helsinki Camerata in Finland and served as its music director from 1997-'99. She also has served as music director for the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra, among other institutions. Diehnelt currently conducts the Chicago Reading Orchestra and is the assistant conductor with the Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest.
