CHICAGO, April 18, 2011 -- Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles' Symphonic Band presents its spring 2011 concert "Jubilations!" on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at Merit School of Music's Anne and Howard Gottlieb Hall (38 S. Peoria St., Chicago). The concert is open to the public for a suggested donation of $10; tickets are available in advance at LakesidePride.org or at the door.
The Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band, under the exuberant direction of Kyle Rhoades, conductor since spring 2009, performs a program of classics, including Sousa's King Cotton, Bernstein's Slava!, and Irish Tune from County Derry as arranged by Grainger, as well as popular repertoire by Elgar, Ticheli, and more.
The May 1 concert will feature guest emcee, Ernie Gonzalez. Gonzalez is a Chicago writer/performer with The Second City's diversity ensemble (BrownCo.), an Artistic Associate of The Agency Theater, and a company member of Funny Bones Improv. Locally, he has performed at: Donny's Skybox, The iO Theatre, The Playground Theater, and Gorilla Tango Theatre among many others. Gonzalez has appeared on commercials and shows seen on: The Animal Planet, The Discovery Channel, Telemundo, and Univision.
Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles' Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Gregory Hughes, also presents its conclusion to the 2010-11 Music Tuesdays Free Concert Series, Tuesday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center on Halsted's Hoover-Leppen Theatre (3656 N Halsted, Chicago). The performance is free and open to the public.
The Lakeside Pride Symphony Orchestra, performs Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite (13 instrument version) and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, also known as the Scottish. Music Tuesdays offers fun, family-friendly concerts with great classical masterworks in an informative format to help audiences learn about music.
Lakeside Pride is the premier family of music ensembles for members and friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the Chicagoland area. Our ensembles include a jazz band, marching band, orchestra, symphonic band, as well as other chamber groups.
