Eggan legacy lives on with gift
Activist, writer and teacher Ferd Eggan, who passed away this summer, will soon have his life celebrated, and will also have his legacy continued through a generous donation from his estate.
Eggan, who was a founder of ACT-UP Chicago and a tireless advocate for people with HIV/AIDS, left a $400,000 gift to Crossroads Fund, according to a press release. The organization says it is the largest unrestricted gift from a person it has ever received. Friends of Ferd will host a celebration of his life Oct. 21, from 2-5 p.m., at Cafe Batey Urbano, 2620 W. Division.

TPAN Raises $135K
Test Positive Aware Network's ( TPAN's ) 20th Anniversary celebration at the MCA Warehouse on Sept. 8 raised $135,000.
The celebration included lots of mingling, an open bar, continuous entertainment, three decorated food vignettes and a historic TPAN exhibition. The event featured a special exhibit highlighting TPAN's 20-year evolution, including Positively Aware covers dating back to 1990 and a short film about the TPAN staff.
'The level of participation from our co-chairs, entertainers, artists, board of directors, sponsors, staff and volunteers, is one to be commended on many levels,' TPAN Executive Director Rick Bejlovec said.
BEHIV continues
massage program
Following a successful 'tag day' at Andersonville and Edgewater bars to raise funds, Better Existense With HIV's ( BEHIV ) Massage Therapy program will be able to continue its Massage Therapy program.
Over $2,000 was raised during the event, according to a BEHIV press release. The organization's program helps HIV-positive patients who suffer from neuropathy.
Robert Garofalo honored
Howard Brown's Dr. Robert Garofalo was named alongside Judy Shepard and others as a recipient of a Gay and Lesbian Medical Association ( GLMA ) 2007 Achievement Award.
Garofalo was recognized for his work with HIV-positive and at-risk youth, according to a Howard Brown press release.

to 'Think Pink'
Continuum Studio, which specializes in massage and skin care products and services, will hold a month-long fundraiser, called Think Pink, for Lesbian Community Cancer Project ( LCCP ) .
During October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Continuum Studio will donate 25 percent of all sales of specific Breast Cancer Awareness Month products and gifts to LCCP, according to the business' press release.
