The president of a regional LGBT support organization is asking for assistance to aid the victims of a tornado that recently ravaged the Evansville, Ind., area.
Wally Paynter is the head of The Tri-State Alliance ( TSA ) , which serves the LGBT communities of southwestern Indiana, western Kentucky and southern Illinois. He is soliciting help for individuals who were subjected to the force of what he termed 'the nation's deadliest tornado of the year.'
The vortex hit the area the night of Nov. 5. According to USA Today, the death toll from the twister stood at 22—including 18 at a mobile home park. The storm also damaged several hundred homes.
Paynter sent out an e-mail stating that several LGBT individuals lost all of their belongings: 'Several members of our community … who work tirelessly to help raise funds for numerous area organizations … had all of their personal property including the mobile homes they lived in destroyed.' He also indicated that the mother of another person lost her life.
Paynter urged individuals to send donations to the TSA Emergency Fund, P.O. Box 2901, Evansville, IN 47728. ( All money earmarked for the emergency fund will be given to the tornado survivors. ) All contributions are tax-deductible.
