The Coming Out Against Cancer Ball, sponsored by the Lesbian Community Cancer Project ( LCCP ) , will take place Feb. 4 at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. Shore Drive, with a sit-down dinner at 6:30 and post-dinner festivities at 8.
The event began as a potluck for a few hundred self-described woman warriors, according to an LCCP release. Now, 15 years later, the ball is the largest fundraiser for lesbians in the Midwest, bringing together more than 2,000 men and women annually and raising more than $1.5 million over the years. The funds have been the main source of revenue for LCCP's work.
As previously mentioned, the event will commence with dinner, which will include a sit-down meal, open bar, and the presentation of the Coming Out Against Cancer Awards. The nightspot Sidetrack, the Chicago Foundation for Women and the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association Women's Softball League are this year's honorees.
Tickets for the dinner begin at $150 and tables of 10 begin at $1,500; all dinner tickets include admission to the Ball. Tickets can be purchased in advance and only through LCCP on its Web site, www.lccp.org, or by calling ( 773 ) 572-5117. |
