The trial of Michael Jackson, the former Chicago Department of Public Health employee accused of running over taxi driver Haroon Paryani with his own cab in Feb. 2005, has been continued to Aug. 14, 2006, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
On Feb. 3, 2005, Jackson became embroiled in an incident in Lakeview that led to the death of Paryani, who Jackson allegedly ran over three times with Paryani's cab. On April 7, Cook County Judge James Schreier granted bail to Jackson in the amount of $750,000.
Two days later, while he was free, Jackson was admitted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after attempting to commit suicide with a drug overdose. He then allegedly attacked nurse Susan McNamara during his hospital stay. After another hearing, Schreier revoked Jackson's bail in May. Since then, Jackson has been shuttled between jails in Cook and DuPage counties, having been charged with, among other things, having sexual relations in the DuPage County Jail and not disclosing he is HIV-positive. |
