The Pride Community Center's (PCC) Third Annual Pride Picnic will be Saturday, July 26 from noon until 5 p.m. in Marquette Park (in
the Miller section of Gary).
The goal of the picnic is to bring together the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered) communities in Northwest
Indiana—and those who support them—for an afternoon of fun and relaxation. Organizations which serve and work with the LGBT
community (The Aliveness Project of Northwest Indiana, Hammond/Northwest Indiana PFLAG, the Human Rights Campaign, MCC-
Illiana, Brothers Uplifting Brothers and the New Life Community Church of Michigan City) will be present to provide information and
materials.
Those attending the picnic should bring picnic lunches. Grills and charcoal will be available, and soft drinks and bottled water will
be on sale. Activities planned include: a balloon toss, kick ball, tug of war, pinatas for young and older, kid's games, and recorded
music.
The Pride Community Center seeks to empower LGBT individuals and groups to build community and to promote social justice
and increased political awareness in Northwest Indiana. To do this more effectively PCC needs input from LGBT individuals. A
questionnaire will be given out at the picnic so that members of these communities can help determine which programs and services
will be most helpful.
