Howard Brown Health Center hosted a luncheon for local politicians Sept. 10 to show the types of services offered by the Center, and to promote the need for funding for the LGBT community.
Legislators who attended: State Sen. John Cullerton, State Rep. Larry McKeon, State Rep. Daniel Burke, State Rep. Constance "Connie" Howard, State Rep. Harry Osterman, State Rep. John Fritchey, State Rep. Tom Dart, State Rep. Bob Biggins, Ald. Helen Shiller, Ald. Gene Schulter, Ald. Joe Moore. Legislative Staff who attended: Bennett Lawson ( State Sen. Carol Ronen ) , Jay Powell ( State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz ) , Robert Brook ( State Rep. Lou Lang ) , Aimee Pine ( Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley ) , Michael O'Connor ( State Rep. Connie Howard ) , Michael Land ( Ald. Joe Moore ) . Priya Bhatia of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin's office also attended. Supporters of the Center including board members and 5th district Congressional candidate Rahm Emanuel were also in attendance. Sean Smith of Howard Brown said, "We were very pleased to see so many friends of the LGBT community and advocates for LGBT health and HIV/AIDS. The legislators and staff were all very engaged in discussing the health and wellness issues of the LGBT community, as well as the community at large. It's very helpful to have such good friends in Washington, in Springfield, in City Hall, and on the County Board. I was sorry Sara Feigenholtz couldn't make it due to illness. The people that attended, sent staff, or called to regret are the ones championing our issues on all levels of government. We had legislators of diverse backgrounds, from all over the Chicago area, and of both parties. It was a wonderful event." |
