TPAN Launches 'TEST AWARE'—A Free, Rapid, Anonymous, HIV Testing Program
Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) is now offering free, anonymous HIV rapid testing. Walk-in appointments will be accepted on Mondays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at TPAN, 5537 N. Broadway, just south of Bryn Mawr and around the corner from the Bryn Mawr 'el' stop.
Utilizing a drop of blood obtained via finger stick, an individual can learn his or her HIV status in as little as 20 minutes—no more waiting for days.
The initiative is entitled 'TEST AWARE,' and is part of a multi-agency project coordinated by the Chicago Department of Public Health. 'In keeping with TPAN's mission of self awareness, the 'TEST AWARE' program will ensure that all who request a Rapid HIV test will be tested safely, quickly, and anonymously and, if need be, will be referred to quality education, support and care programs, if they so desire,' stated Matt Sharp, Director of Treatment Education at TPAN.
Whether a person tests HIV negative or HIV positive, TPAN can provide the tools, resources and education necessary to remain healthy.

Substance Abuse Forum at HBHC
When You Care: Stepping in to help a loved one who is losing control of their alcohol or drug use is the focus of a forum Sept. 30.
Watching alcohol and/or drug use take over a friend, lover, or family member's life is a painful and frustrating situation. Can I do anything—Should I? Will he or she listen? If I say something will that make it worse? If I say something will she or he end our relationship? … There are many questions, and not many easy answers—especially for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender folks.
Howard Brown Health Center, The PRIDE Institute, Directions Psychological Services, and Chicago House are providing a free workshop during Recovery Month to address these concerns and provide some answers.
A panel of substance abuse counselors will discuss where, when and how friends and family may intervene to assist loved ones who are using too much, Thursday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m., Howard Brown Health Center, 4025 N. Sheridan Rd.

Body Mints
Come to Town
A cool Hawaiian import hit Chicagoland drug store shelves this summer—a little green tablet that reduces body odors big-time. Called Body Mint®, the product uses an all-natural, exclusive formula, made from a special derivative of chlorophyll that has proven to be effective in helping people of all ages, cultures and body types to reduce odors head to toe, including breath, underarm and—believe it or not—even foot odors.
Body Mint is available in the deodorant section of Chicagoland Osco Drug stores.
'Body Mint is not a cover-up; rather it's a natural, one-stop solution that gives people increased confidence in their scent appeal,' said Rona Yim who, along with her partners Eddie Onouye and Claire Tanoue, created Body Mint. 'It's amazing to hear about the difference that Body Mint makes for many of our customers who have endured the embarrassing, yet seldom talked about, problem of body odors.'
