Performances Benefit Morton Arboretum Tree-Planting Mission

LISLE, IL ( June 29, 2010 ) - It'll be an incomparable musical experience when Huey Lewis and the News, Indigo Girls, and New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago with special guest, Matthew Santos perform in concerts at The Morton Arboretum in late July.

Fans who attend essentially get a "two-fer": they enjoy great shows, and ticket proceeds support the Arboretum's vital work to save and plant trees. Each concert occurs on a gorgeous lawn amid lush trees, and every seat has an excellent view of the stage.

The Grammy winning, multi-platinum selling Huey Lewis and the News hits the Arboretum stage July 23 at 7 p.m. The group is best known for hits such as the Oscar- nominated smash, "The Power of Love," which served as the theme song for the movie: Back to the Future. Other mega-hits include "The Heart of Rock and Roll," "Stuck with You," "I Want a New Drug" and "Workin' for a Livin'." Although the group first rocketed to stardom in the 1980s, their music stands the test of time.

With a new album on the way and fresh off a filming session for the hit, new TV show, Hot in Cleveland starring Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli, HLN will please every rock fan and may surprise the crowd, too. Tickets are $45 in advance; $47 Day-of.

Fans at the Indigo Girls' Arboretum concert on July 24 at 7 p.m. can expect an energetic performance that reveals why these Grammy-winning singer-songwriters have been exciting audiences for years. Their newest album, "Staring Down the Brilliant Dream," was released today! It features 31 cuts that are the best of their live performances from 2006-2009. The group considers live shows "the most vibrant part of what we do," says Indigo Girl Amy Ray.

Indigo Girls may be best known for the hits, "Shame on You" and "Closer to Fine." Their music is "part of an emotional journey as complete as can be. More relevant than anyone dared expect...moving and utterly poetic," according to Thom Jurek of Allmusic. Tickets are $43 in advance; $45 Day-of.

For some really cool tunes among the trees, it's New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago, July 25 at 7 p.m., performing the opening movement of Beethoven's 5th symphony, opera arias from Carmen, a Rossini overture, and more. The innovative orchestra, a performing partner with the Chicago Cultural Center, will present an exciting guest cellist: the critically-acclaimed, Naumburg Award-winning Clancy Newman, who has performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard Orchestra, and others. He is traveling from New York specifically for the Arboretum concert.

Also performing with NMOC is special guest vocalist, Grammy-nominated artist Matthew Santos, who just released a brand new album, "This Burning Ship of Fools." One of the hottest acts on the Chicago music scene, Santos gained international fame for his recent collaboration with hip-hop star Lupe Fiasco. Billboard magazine raves of Santos: "the soulful underpinnings of his voice are what remain consistent; containing versatility suitable for his singer/songwriter styling as well as R&B." Tickets are $28 in advance; $30 Day-of.

ORDERING INFORMATION

Tickets for all acts are on sale via www.mortonarb.org, via 630-725-2066, and in person at the Arboretum Visitor Center. A $5 processing fee applies to phone and online orders. Prices above are for the general public; Arboretum members receive discounts.

The Morton Arboretum gratefully acknowledges concert series Contributing Sponsor Harris Bank; and Wente Family Estates, Featured Wine Sponsor of the Arboretum.
