Alphonso David, the president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), has refused to resign in the midst of controversyeven after the organization's co-chairs reportedly requested that he do so.
According to NBC New York, David is one of two prominent LGBTQ leaders embroiled in the scandal involving ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for allegedly consulting the Cuomo team as accusations of sexual harassment amassed. David and now-former Time's Up leader Roberta Kaplan were named in the attorney general's report for allegedly agreeing to help discredit accuser Lindsey Boylan.
Shortly after the report's release, the HRC president became the focus of an internal investigation by the organizationan inquiry that David claims has concluded.
"I have now been privately contacted by the two co-chairs of the HRC board and their representatives, who informed me verbally that the review period has been completed, and that there is no indication of wrongdoing on my part," he tweeted. "Despite the lack of any findings, the board co-chairs have now asked me to consider resigning, not because of any wrongdoing, but because they feel the incident has been a 'distraction' for the organization. They told me they reached this conclusion because they heard from two funders and a small handful of employees who expressed concern via email over the last several weeks."
The HRC has not yet responded to David's posts.
