HIV Researcher Gives Talk

Touting a program that he believes can help HIV-positive individuals live fuller lives —including the incorporation of successful drug treatment interruptions—writer, professor and famed HIV specialist Dr. Jon Kaiser spoke on May 24 at Ann Sather, 929 W. Belmont.

Kaiser's regimen involves six components: vitamin therapy, intestinal support, exercise, hormone balancing, stress reduction/positive attitude, and a diet meant to boost the immune system. ( He said that a seventh component, antiviral therapy, factors into the equation only if the previous six fail. ) During his presentation, Kaiser pointed to research to bolster his program. According to the results of a project that took place in Tanzania over six years, he said, pregnant women who took vitamins suffered less symptoms and disease progression than those who simply took placebos. ( The experiment is published in the New England Journal of Medicine. )

The talk was hosted by Test Positive Aware Network and AIDSCare. To learn more about Dr. Kaiser's program, visit www.jonkaiser.com or call ( 415 ) 381-7505.
