A new concept in fitness has opened, providing the same convenient payment method akin to the telecommunications, ATM debit
banking, and mass transit industries—payment in minutes. In this case, the 'payment' in minutes is for fitness.
'This revolutionary approach to fitness—payment by the minute—is such a simple 'win-win' formula for consumers that I'm
surprised no one has thought of it before,' said fitness industry consultant Paul Bosley. 'It's a 'reduction to the ridiculous', a 'less is
more' venue opportunity that I'd wager a fair amount of people will adopt.'
The formula is simple. The venue, Pulse Fitness Center, provides four pre-paid Stored Value Cards (SVC) offering 'minutes' on
corresponding fitness equipment. The Center's proprietary card readers effectively 'read' consumers' cards and deduct minutes
while equipment is in use. Pulse Fitness affords patrons the freedom to work out at their own pace and does away with the
commitment required by other health clubs.
Says General Manager and Project Development Director Rich Brown of the decade-long research and planning phase of the
project: 'We asked a lot of people and conducted research that told us people don't want the long-term commitment of membership
contracts, dues, and so on. They don't really use the showers, the swimming pools, the whirl pools, etc. Pulse Fitness Center fills that
niche of 'a place to workout,' nothing less, nothing more. Pulse Fitness is where every minute counts.'
The facility boasts plenty of bells and whistles for those subscribing to the Pulse Fitness concept. Among the many unique and
value-added features and benefits are 30 'ready-now' cardio machines, 26 of which are equipped with individual 15-inch LCD-TV
flat-screen monitors featuring expanded basic cable stations, four virtual reality bikes and steppers and two HEX Deluxe tanning
beds. Contemporary music is piped through a state-of-the-art sound system. The ambience is an overall inviting industrial feel with a
soothing yet energetic honey and merlot color palette, the owners state. Three distinct areas round out the facility giving patrons a
combination of cardio, strength training and tanning salon options.
Ald. Tunney, in support of the grand opening, said 'I am delighted to take part in this new initiative in providing Lakeview
residents—and consumers at large—with more convenient choices to a healthy lifestyle.'
Located at 3170 N. Broadway, at Belmont & Broadway in the East Lakeview area, the facility measures approximately 3,900
square feet and sits across from the Lake Shore Theater.
Pulse Fitness Center is open 7 days a week from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
