February is about to get very hot, as Girl Bar Chicago takes over the first Saturday of the month at Circuit Nightclub. Feb. 3 marks Girl Bar Chicago's grand opening, and promoters Sandy Sachs and Dr. Robin Gans—the women behind Girl Bar and Dinah Shore Week—promise to bring to Chicago the same integrity and style Girl Bar L.A. is known for.
Sachs and Gans will be bringing their famous go-gos from Los Angeles to dance, and DJ Kathy Valenti will keep the club rocking all night.
'We have recently employed Julie Mosier ( formerly of Chix Mix, which continues its Chicago events ) , on a full-time basis. She actually moved to Las Vegas for us, to Girl Bar Las Vegas, and to help us promote Girl Bar Chicago and Dinah Shore Week,' said Sachs. It's a move the women expect to help them succeed in the Chicago market.
Sachs and Gans plan to stick to the Girl Bar format they have developed over the past 17 years. The format has helped garner so much recognition in the lesbian community that, even before advertising began for Girl Bar Chicago, Sachs and Gans were receiving e-mails from excited lesbians in Chicago eager for the new night.
Sachs and Gans plan to market Girl Bar Chicago in surrounding states, such as Michigan, hoping lesbians from these areas decide to make a weekend around Girl Bar Chicago.
Girl Bar Chicago isn't the only promotion Sachs and Gans have planned for Chicago. They are also doing their first Mardi Gras Masquerade on Feb. 18 at Transit, and they are planning on hooking up with a host hotel for Pride 2007 and hosting parties throughout that weekend.
Girl Bar L.A. has been going strong every week for 17 years, with an average weekly turnout of approximately 500-600 women. Special events generally bring in around 1,000 women. Girl Bar Las Vegas has been successfully hosting weekly parties for a year and a half now, and the Phoenix location is also experiencing success with parties one Thursday per month.
There is no question Sachs and Gans know how to throw a party. They are hosting numerous events coinciding with the annual Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs March 28-April 1.
