Chicago---Break out your scrunchies and your Bonnie Tyler cassettes. Seasoned improvisers and sketch comedians Katy Colloton (The Katydids, Classy D) and John Loos (GayCo Productions, Pinque Pony) open their second sketch revue JODY on Thursday, November 10 at 10:30pm at the iO Del Close Theater. JODY is written by Colloton and Loos, is directed by iO veteran Dina Facklis (Virgin Daquiri, Stubs 3), and run through Dec. 22.
From World War II-saavy teenage girls to sexed-up jet pilots to the unforseen perils of skinny jeans, JODY seeks to flip the traditional male-female sketch show concept on its head by frequently breaking gender roles.
Brought together by a mutual love of Leslie Gore and shoulder pads, Loos and Colloton frequently play against their physicalities while still creating compelling, high energy characters and moments.
"JODY has the aesthetic of a 1980s teen girl bedroom, but weirder and darker," says Loos. "On stage, we love to hate each other and we love to love each other. We love characters that exist in the extremes."
JODY shares its timeslot with another two-person sketch duo, Ugly & Delicious (Nick Casalini and Muriel Montgomery), who are debuting their revue Ragamuffins ( www.uglyanddelicious.com ).
Tickets for the night are $5 and free for iO students.
