Indianapolis Indianapolis-based advertising agency TrendyMinds has been invited to Obama's State of Union address this Wednesday night, January 27. The agency, which has experienced record growth despite the troubled economy, is being highlighted for their achievements as a small business and their mission of giving back to the community.
Yager sees this honor as a testament to President Obama's commitment to equality for gays.
"Obama has made a commitment to equal rights for all Americans, including the LGBT community," says Yager, "and this is another solid step toward supporting us. I'm thrilled to be invited to the White House, not just as a gay man, but as a successful American business owner."
TrendyMinds is a member of the NGLCC ( National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce ) and is certified as a gay-owned business. The NGLCC acts as a business advocate for the more than 1.4 million LGBT-owned businesses.
"Major corporations are now required to spend their dollars with minority businesses, and they're recognizing the gay community as a very valuable segment of this market," Yager says. "The NGLCC is 'matchmaker' of sorts that matches LGBT-owned business to corporations with a commitment to diversity."
TrendyMinds has experienced massive growth in a challenging economy. In 2009 the agency grew by more than 200%, doubled the number of employees, gained 15 new accounts and underwent a renovation to accommodate the explosive growth. In 2009, TrendyMinds awarded $50,000 of in-kind work to eight deserving non-profits. This year, when many business are scraping to get by or closing their doors altogether, TrendyMinds has tripled their charitable contributions. In 2010, the agency will give away $150,000 of in-kind work to 12 nonprofits.
Yager will travel to Washington, D.C. Wednesday morning to attend the State of the Union address. He will also be interviewed by the NGLCC for a placement on the organization's website.
