Chicago Native Gets Point Foundation Scholarship
Lindsay Higgins, a native of Chicago and a prospective student at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical College, was just awarded the nation's most prestigious scholarship for gay and lesbian students by The Point Foundation. Her scholarship is one of two new scholarships co-sponsored by The Point Foundation, the nation's first and largest scholarship organization dedicated to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ( LGBT ) youth, and MTVu, the campus arm of the MTV network.
Lindsay is a remarkable and resilient woman. She was essentially cast out by her family when they discovered she was gay yet she kept her will and convictions. Even after her grueling dealings with her family, she went on found the first Gay/Straight Alliance group in her community. Her efforts to help LGBT youths is just beginning.
The Point Foundation is the first and only nationwide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ( LGBT ) scholarship organization that focuses exclusively on granting assistance to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students of distinction.
