TOTALLY GAY!

VH-1 Monday, Aug. 18 10 a.m., 5 p.m.,10 p.m., 1 a.m., Tuesday noon. (Note: Times and frequency for VH-1 programs often change at the last minute. Check tvguide.com to confirm.)

VH-1's TOTALLY GAY is a fast, breezy clipfest highlighting the growing influence of gays and lesbians on mainstream culture and fashion, including how straight men are increasingly adopting gay looks and styles.

From Madonna, Clinton and Roseanne to AIDS activism and the internet, TOTALLY GAY traces the people and phenomena who helped the evolution of gay influence throughout the '90s.

Among the commentators: Sandra Bernhard, Melissa Etheridge, Michelangelo Signorile, Amber Benson, Michael Musto of The Village Voice, Mariel Hemingway, the two male models who kiss in Christina Aguilera's Beautiful video, and The Real World Chicago's Chris, who looks very different now with longer curly hair and a suit.

(Blurring the line between straight and gay, in accordance with the show's theme, for a moment, I thought Chris was one of the straight roomies from the show!)

Among the most fun aspects of the special is its entire new glossary of Gay/Straight terms: The Dorothy Dollar, Dykon, Tatusexuals, Metrosexuals, Lespolitation, Fag Stags, Yestergays, Hasbians and Lugs!

Produced by Thairin Smothers for World of Wonder (Gay Hollywood, Party Monster, The Complete Warhol), the special is narrated by Trev Brody, the young West Hollywood resident and voice-over artist who was brutally gay-bashed last year on the sidewalk in front of his apartment building.
