Every Wednesday in August, Four Women Showcase, hosted by Kat Fitzgerald, continues…

Doors open: 6:30pm, show time 7-9pm ( no cover ) . This continuing monthly showcase features female singer/songwriters from all over, including touring artists and local Chicago-based performers at Mary's Attic, 5400 N. Clark, Chicago, IL, ( 773 ) 784-6969 ( www.hamburgermaryschicago.com ) , a place where the food and fun can always be found and now live music has been launched.

"Four Women Showcase " — the music series which began in September of 2008 is continuing to help bring music from female singer/songwriters to the music loving Chicago fans. Each week, "Four" female performers will showcase their talents in a fabulous show. For one month, the same four performers will be featured, but will rotate and change their sets adding in some collaboration and more.

On August 4th, and every Wednesday in August, Four Women Showcase will feature the musical styling's of Jess Godwin ( jessgodwin.com ) , Jennifer Andrea of Red Rose Retreat ( myspace.com/redroseretreat ) and the fabulous trio of Driving the Daisies which features Kate Lambie and Karin Anderson with the guitar virtuosity of Mark Tulloss ( drivingthedaisies.com/ )

ARTIST JESS GODWIN

Singer and pianist Jess Godwin writes nuanced pop songs whose quirky lyrics and sophisticated music recall such artists as Corrine Bailey Rae, Robin Thicke and Tori Amos. Her R&B t5inged debut, "To the Heart of It", takes a playful look at the twenty-something dating world of unrequited love and unreturned phone calls. On her new release, "Quiet the Room", Godwin sings of the pleasures and imperfections of new relationships. Produced by Jan Smith ( Justin Bieber, Usher, Rob Thomas ) , "Quiet the Room" hig-lights Godwin's dynamic vocals and sharp melodic sensibilities.

Her live performances tend to be emotional events characterized by honest and impassioned delivery, whether she is performing solo or with her band.

In the past year Jess has played venues in New York, Toronto, Atlanta, Nashville, Denver, Detroit and of course all over Chicago. Born in Atlanta, Jess attended Vanderbilt College and now splits her time between Chicago and New York.

ARTIST JENNIFER ANDREA

Jennifer Andrea's Red Rose Retreat began 8 years ago at the age of 15 under her own name, creating her own take on radio rock. With a long history of classical piano and choir, she wanted to create something more edgy and offer a look into her world, quickly drawing comparisons to Tori Amos and Vanessa Carlton.

After many self-released albums Jennifer Andrea took to the studio in 2005 to create Deceptive Cadence: My Alibi. This release marked the beginning of the hard rock band called My Alibi and quickly made an impression throughout Milwaukee clubs such as The Rave, The BBC, and The Miramar Theatre as well as garnering favorable reviews in local press such as The Shepherd Express and The Onion. This lead to invitations to branch out of Milwaukee including an invitation to play Locobazooka in Massachusetts.

Despite continually progressing in other genres, Jennifer Andrea felt the need to return to work as a solo artist. After fronting a hard rock band for 3 years, she has recently released "Calories and Caffeine," a 6 song EP under the name Red Rose Retreat, chosen because of the nature of the song subject matter, "Love is a Mess."

ARTIST DRIVING THE DAISIES

Driving the daisies is a new music sensation from Chicago featuring Kate Lambie and Karin Anderson on Vocals with Mark Tulloss on Guitar.

From an intimate trio to a large band and stage production, this is the new act not to be missed.

The show consists of revamped classic covers and an assortment of original material that connects with every audience niche.

HOST KAT FITZGERALD

Host, Kat Fitzgerald, is a drummer with the Chicago-based band, "Left Turn At Albuquerque" and hosts the Open Mic each Monday at Uptown Lounge. Kat brings the same passion to percussion that she brings to life. Playing the Cajon, Djembe, Bongos or Kat's Kit that includes her "baby", she is most in her element providing the heartbeat of the band. Kat is often invited to play with musicians around Chicago and is highly in demand as a skilled percussionist. Besides playing in LTAA, Kat works the sound, and supports emerging musical talent with added focus on women getting their start in performing.

By day, Kat's job as a Computer Security Specialist allows her to support her shoe collection. She may be the only drummer in Chicago to always play in 4" heels. The love of percussion came at an early age as her mother would often entertain her by allowing her to bang on pots and pans. Among Kat's many influences are Tower of Power and jazz musicians. Love of music is evident in all that she does in her life and supporting the local music scene. Kat is also a sought after photographer and enjoys photographing musicians and events many times donating her services. Check out Mystic Images Photography to see her many amazing photographs.

"Left Turn at Albuquerque is lucky to snare her talents as they embark on this musical adventure, trying to find their way while being chased by Elmer Fudd."

--Jeff Churchwell, leader of LTAA

Don't miss the next show! Stop by Mary's Attic and Four Women Showcase" on any Wednesday. It will be an evening filled with lots of original music collaboration and a chance to meet some of the women who are strong players in the music industry today.
