CHICAGO—Equality Illinois and AIDS Foundation of Chicago are excited to announce Fahrenheit Chicago—Pride South on the Lake, an end-of-summer beach party of fun, music, and social networking for LGBTQ Illinoisans, their friends and families.
The free event, featuring music, games, public health awareness, and civic engagement, will be on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 11am to 7pm at Oakwood Beach, 41st Street and Lake Shore Drive, Chicago.
DJs and other acts, games, civic engagement opportunities including voter registration, and free health screenings will be offered for participants coming together over the camaraderie afforded by picnics and barbecues and music on Chicago's fabulous lakefront.
"We are so excited to bring LGBTQ people of color from all generations together for a summer party on the South Side. With Fahrenheit Chicago, we look forward to gathering and socializing on the South Side, and we hope it also helps build stronger bridges within the diverse queer community from all parts of the city and the Chicago area," said Anthony Galloway, Director of Civic Engagement of Equality Illinois, the statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization.
Cynthia Tucker, Vice President of Prevention and Community Partnerships for AIDS Foundation of Chicago, said that the partnership with Equality Illinois promotes community engagement, disease prevention and access to public health services. "The event created for LGBTQ communities, families and friends encourages young people to take control of their health in a social environment," Tucker said.
Non-stop action on the main stage is sponsored by CALOR-AHC, which supports Latinx people living with or affected by AIDS. Some of the top DJs in the city and other entertainers will be featured, including DJ Tiger, DJ Superman, DJ All The Way Kay with Jon Pierce, DJ Scott Gucci Roxx, Brothers Unite presents the Fahrenheit Mini Ball with DJ Matt Aga, DJ Gemini Jones, and The Serpent, DJ TJaye.
Activities will include a Bid Whist tournament and volleyball and other beach games.
Free health screenings at Fahrenheit Chicago will be coordinated by Howard Brown Health, the event's Presenting Partner. The beach party is also supported by the Chicago Department of Public Health, Regional Resource Network Program, ACLU of Illinois, Rush University Medical Center, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Cook County Health and Hospitals System ( Austin CBC, South Suburban HIV/AIDS Regional Clinics, and Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center ), Legal Council for Health Justice, University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital, Center on Halsted, and Great Lakes Coca-Cola Distribution Company.
"We thank the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Police Department Second District, and Chicago Ald. Sophia King for working with us as we planned this fun afternoon," Galloway said.
