Queer Latin(o/a) America: Diasporas and Histories is a one-day symposium at the University of Chicago Saturday, May 15, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration starts at 9 a.m. Coffee and bagels available. Speakers include: Frances R. Aparicio, University of Illinois, Chicago; Héctor Carrillo, Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, University of California San Francisco; Larry LaFountain-Stokes, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; Agnes Lugo-Ortiz, University of Chicago; Sylvia Molloy , New York University; Emma Pérez, University of Colorado, Boulder; Rubén Ríos-Avila, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. All sessions will take place in the John Hope Franklin Room, Social Science Research Building, Room 224, 1126 E. 59 St.

ALMA (Association of Latino Men for Action) is relaunching its weekly AAA support group. Amigos Apoyando Amigos provides a safe, confidential, and bilingual space to discuss issues of specific concern to gay/bi latino males. Meetings will be Mondays 7-9 p.m. at Horizons, 941 W Montana, Chicago, (773) 929.7688. ALMA (Asociación de Hombres Latinos en Acción) esta reiniciando su grupo de apoyo semanal AAA. Amigos Apoyando Amigos provee un foro seguro, confidencial, y bilingüe para tratar con temas de interés especifico a hombres latinos gay y bisexuales. ALMA's April CAN TV show features an immigration attorney who works on issues of asylum-based on sexual orientation and HIV status in unfriendly countries. Airs Friday, April 16, 6:30-7 p.m. on CAN TV channel 21 with guest attorney Bill Schiller, who has a concentration in immigration law; he will be discussing issues of HIV status and asylum in relation to current immigration policy.
