January 26, 2011 New York, NY London-born songstress Eliza Doolittle, who's been thrilling fans across the Atlantic with her breezy singles "Rollerblades", "Skinny Genes" and "Pack Up," will release her self-titled debut album March 22 on Capitol Records. NylonMagazine calls out her "sassy lyrics, jaunty melodies" and raves that "her songs capture the feeling of being young, happy, and carefree."
22-year-old Doolittle has been writing songs since she was 12 and signed a publishing deal at 16. She co-wrote each of her debut album's 13 tracks, collaborating with a host of top-notch songwriters and producers, including Greg Kurstin, Steve Chrisanthou (Corinne Bailey Rae), the late Jonny $ (Kylie, Massive Attack), and Craigie Dodds (Amy Winehouse). The result is a witty pop collection that mines sounds from the '60s and '70s while still sounding indisputably fresh. The one-two punch of "Rollerblades" and her U.K. debut "Skinny Genes" recall lost songs from the Motown era by the Marvelettes and The Supremes. "Doolittle pleasantly sings about ditching the iPod, and cueing up 45s" says YRB Magazine.
Although Doolittle is a diehard fan of classic pop, and cites the Beach Boys, The Kinks, and Stevie Wonder as influences, she doesn't see herself fitting in to a cut-and-dried pop mold. "I'd like to be a pop musician in the proper old school vein of pop when there weren't any different genres like there are now; it was all just pop music," she says. Her music bears hallmarks of folk, ska, vintage R&B/soul, and even Big Band sounds, conjuring up a feel-good vibe with plenty of pop smarts. Doolittle performed at all of the major UK festivals last year and will showcase her songs in the states later this year adding a stop at both SXSW and Coachella.
Released overseas in July 2010, Doolittle's debut album has been certified PLATINUM and her hit "Pack Up" certified GOLD in the UK. In addition, "Pack Up" landed a spot on iTunes Rewind as one the best-selling songs of 2010, with the song "Rollerblades" nailing a spot on iTunes as the 'Single of the Week'.
Following the incredibly successful "Single of the Week", the EP crashed into the top 10 on the Billboard heatseekers chart and is currently available for download on iTunes. The EP features singles "Skinny Genes", "Pack Up" and "Rollerblades" audio and video, plus a video interview with the singer,
