Avenue Q is moving just down the block for less than a week. Windy City Times took a stroll down the street to speak with our friend Rod.
Windy City Times: Hi, Rod. I am doing a story about your 'hood. How is life on Avenue Q?
Rod: Things are good on Avenue Q. We just had a new tenant move in named Princeton. He seems nice enough. I think he has an eye on Kate Monster. I'm jealous of his extensive sweater collection.
WCT: "If You Were Gay" would Avenue Q be a good neighborhood to live in?
Rod: I have no idea what you are talking about. Who's gay? I'm not.
WCT: What's more fulfilling, being a banker or a Republican?
Rod: I'd say Republican? I don't have a lot in common with my fellow investment bankers. After work, we part ways. They are off to Hooters, and I am off to see the revival of Damn Yankees at City Center. P.S.: Jane Krakowski is hot, but she's no Gwen Verdon.
WCT: How do you think Obama is doing as a president so far?
Rod: He's doing a decent job. Although, I haven't heard much from him on the issue of monster rights. That will be a decision-maker for me.
WCT: Is the rent high where you live?
Rod: No. And I don't worry about it. The current economic crisis isn't really hurting me as badly as everyone else. I was smart enough to invest in Tootsie Roll while it was low. People will always need Tootsie Rolls.
WCT: How do you use the Internet?
Rod: I use the internet for work purposes mainly. I am an investment banker. I also regularly check Theatermania, Broadwayworld and talkinbroadway.com ... oh, and HouseofJugs.org . I appreciate not-for-profit porn.
WCT: Do you have a favorite neighbor?
Rod: That's a tough one! I would say my roommate, Nicky. Even though I would have to do the cooking and the dishes, and the cleaning, and he would be watching TV through most of dinner. If he wasn't such a nice guy, he'd be a huge pain in my ass.
WCT: Have you been getting along with your roommate, Nicky?
Rod: We are like Laverne and Shirley. We get into our little tiffs, but it's clear we love each other... Platonically speaking.
WCT: What's one of your favorite memories?
Rod: I got stuck in "It's a Small world" for six hours at Disneyworld. IT WAS PARADISE! I could not believe all of those authentic outfits on those dolls!!! When you ride it normally, there is no time to really appreciate the fashion design.
WCT: Well, I hope everyone comes and visits you at Avenue Q after they read this story!
Rod: I hope so, too!
