Windy City Times does not endorse in elections. Rather, we send a questionnaire to candidates and list their rating based on the total answered.
The Windy City Times (WCT) Questionnaire was different for each race.
In the race for U.S. President, John Kerry has a 100% rating in the U.S. Senate from the Human Rights Campaign in the last five congresses, including the most recent, the 108th. Sen. John Edwards had a 66% rating in the 108th, 100% in the 107th, and 71% in the 106th Congress. The Kerry/Edwards Democratic ticket has received endorsements from a wide range of progressive political action committees and activists, and even has a majority of mainstream newspaper endorsements across the country. The Chicago Tribune received a subscriber backlash after endorsing Republicans George W. Bush/Dick Cheney.
For U.S. Reps, their Human Rights Campaign Fund voting records for the 106th, 107th and 108th Congresses are listed, where applicable (if they were in office).
Equality Illinois' endorsing group, the Illinois Federation for Human Rights-PAC (listed as E.I.) endorsements are listed for state races. The Illinois NOW PAC endorsed in only certain races (Y means Endorse, S = Support). For national offices, the NOW listings are for National NOW PAC.
IVI is the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization.
Personal PAC (Pers.PAC) is a statewide pro-choice organization.
NARAL is the National Abortion Rights Action League.
LCR is Log Cabin Republicans (national group for any federal elections, Chicago group for Illinois). The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) asked 11 total questions of state office seekers and 17 for the federal races (so 10/11 = 10 questions correct of 11 asked). See www.aidschicago.org . See the Web sites for these groups for more details.
