Democratic candidate Eric Sorensen will become the first out LGBTQ member of Congress from the state. He narrowly won his race against Republican Esther Joy King in the 17th District.
In the newly created 3rd District, Democratic candidate Delia Ramirez defeated Republican candidate Justin Burau by 34 points. She will be the first ever Latina elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the entire Midwest in the nation's history.
Other Congressional races in Illinois saw wide margins for most of the winners.
1st District Democratic candidate Jonathan Jackson (the son of Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr.) defeated Republican candidate Eric Carlson by 31 points. 2nd District incumbent Democratic candidate Robin Kelly defeated Republican challenger Thomas Lynch by 35 points.
4th District incumbent Democratic candidate Jesús "Chuy" Garcia defeated both challengers, Republican candidate James Falakos and Working Class candidate Edward Hershey, with almost 68% of the vote. 5th District incumbent Democratic candidate Mike Quigley defeated both challengers, Republican Tommy Hanson and Independent Jerico Cruz, with almost 68% of the vote.
In the 6th District, incumbent Democrat Sean Casten, who beat Democrat Marie Newman in the primary, defeated Republican challenger Keith Pekau by seven points to win the general election. Incumbent Rep. Danny Davis (D-7) won his uncontested race.
8th District incumbent Democratic candidate Raja Krishnamoorthi defeated Republican challenger Chris Dargis by 12 points. 9th District incumbent Democratic candidate Jan Schakowsky defeated Republican challenger Max Rice by 41 points.
10th District incumbent Democratic candidate Brad Schneider defeated Republican challenger Joseph Severino by about 24 points. 11th District incumbent Democratic candidate Bill Foster defeated Republican challenger Catalina Lauf by about 11 points.
12th District incumbent Republican candidate Mike Bost defeated Democratic challenger Chip Markel by 50 points. In the newly created 13th District's race, Democratic candidate Nikki Budzinski defeated Republican candidate Regan Deering by nine points.
14th District incumbent Democratic candidate Lauren Underwood defeated Republican challenger Scott Gryder by seven points. In the 15th district, where incumbent Republican Mary Miller beat out incumbent Republican Rodney Davis in the primary, she defeated Democratic challenger Paul Lange by 43 points to win the general election.
16th District incumbent Republican candidate Darin LaHood defeated Democratic challenger Elizabeth Haderlein by 32 points.
