CHICAGO — June 30, 2010 — Dylan Rice performs in celebration of his new CD, Electric Grids & Concrete Towers, Saturday, July 17 at Martyrs, 3855 N. Lincoln Ave., at 9:30 p.m. General admission is $10 at the door, or in advance at www.musictoday.com or at 1-800-594-TIXX. Must be 21 to enter. The Greenwoods and Milhous also perform.
Three years in the making at Joyride Studios in Chicago, Electric Grids & Concrete Towers was produced by Blaise Barton ( Bob Dylan, Liz Phair ) and marks Dylan's sophomore effort on Deep Tissue Records following Wandering Eyes.
Dylan assembled a diverse team of collaborators including guest musicians John Stirratt of Wilco ( "Motel Daughters" ) ; Polish jazz chanteuse Grazyna Auguscik ( "Eggshells & Landmines" ) ; Dave Mendez; Larry Brown; Rafe Bradford; Matt Ulery ( Eastern Blok ) ; and Francesco Milioto ( Ravinia guest conductor ) . Additionally, the cover art features illustrations by Tom Bachtell of The New Yorker's "Talk of the Town" section.
Electric Grids & Concrete Towers traverses a range of literal and emotional landscapes. Some are real, some fantastic, but all are rife with sexual and religious tension: from the gay underground in papal Rome to tragicomic laundry workers in an Interstate 80 Nevada motel; from a bisexual experience to mile-high pleasure seekers on a doomed airliner. Dylan secures his reputation as one of the most promising singer-songwriters on his latest indie pop/rock gem.
Dylan Rice performs July 17 with his band that includes Dave Mendez ( guitar and vocals ) ; Larry Brown ( drums ) ; Matt Ulery ( bass ) ; and an appearance by vocalist Grazyna Auguscik. |
