The Chicago Dragons Rugby Football Club beat the Minneapolis Mayhem May 6, 51-0. This is the second win for the Dragons, after defeating the Phoenix Storm in March.
The Dragons started strong out of the gate with Mark Byrne scoring in the first five minutes. He proceeded to take one more in before the end of the half. 'The Mayhem played tough and clean. They are great competitors. I can't wait to see them again at Bingham,' said Byrne. Mark was the only Dragon to score more than once. David Zuniga, Paul Cannella, and Brian Figueroa all scored twice. Rob Sobieralski scored once, while Bhuttu Mathews completed 3 conversions.
'We worked hard all spring to advance our game and we are starting to see the results,' said captain Cannella. 'We play every game hard, each time reaching for that 'W', and so far we have racked up two. I am confident that there will be a couple more wins after the Bingham Cup.'
This was the Dragons' last game before they head to New York to compete in the Bingham Cup, which is the International Gay Rugby Association and Boards' equivalent to the World Cup. The Dragons, the Storm, and the Mayhem will be among 26 teams from around the world competing Memorial Weekend.
