RuPaul's Drag Race alum Adore Delano performed an acoustic set from her new album, Till Death Do Us Party, on Sept. 16. The event took place at Boystown nightspot Roscoe'sthe sole host to drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race. Chicago is the only city that Adore performed "unplugged" on her tour, and did so with accompaniment from Sherman, the bassist from her band. Within the same year that she made it to the top three of season six of "Drag Race," Delano has released a full-length album, debuting at number 59 on Billboard 200, and is now touring the world.
After the death of her father earlier this month, Delano announced a brief professional break to be with her family, subsequently putting her newly announced tour on hold. Now freshly back on the road, Chicago was Delano's first show back in the states following two performances in Amsterdam.
She settled the stage wearing a black sequence dress adorned with weeping eyes and red sequined blood-tears, which stayed true to her look and heritage. Delano described herself as a "punk-rock mermaid" and closely identifies with her "chola" roots. Also, her "I don't give any f" attitude was on full display; in one case, she burped on the off-beats. Delano exposed a new side of her talents that haven't been showcased since her appearance on season seven of American Idol ( as Danny Noriega ).
Till Death Do Us Party is primarily an electronic album, and the dramatic sound change seemingly captivated her audience. Delano had fans congregating at Roscoe's who traveled from as far as California to hear her acoustic set.
From her album she played renditions of "Party," "Hello, I Love You," "My Address Is Hollywood," "Give Me Tonight" and "I Delano U." Known for her love of stage diving, Delano resisted the audience's encouragement to do so between songs. Following the set, Delano expressed that she dearly misses her boyfriend who resides in Australia, dedicating the last song to hima cover of Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness."
After the planned performance, Delano's fans urged her to perform the single "DTF." After someone backstage retrieved CDs from a car, Delano performed impromptu covers to Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" and Robyn's "Dancing On My Own." Finally, to cater to the audience, Delano concluded the evening with a "plugged" version of her song "DTF."
As Delano left the stage, the majority of the crowd rushed to the photo line for the meet and greet to conclude the night. |
