An informational conversation on the Hunters Nightclub door policy and transgender rights, organized by members of the transgender community, hosted by the Center on Halsted and moderated by Greg Harris, Illinois State Representative, will be held Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at 7 p.m.
In August, Hunter's Night Club in Elk Grove Village instituted a policy that required patrons to match the gender presentation on their IDs. Transgendered organizers are protesting this policy and calling for a city-wide boycott. The boycott is endorsed by Gay Liberation Network, Join the ImpactChicago, The Bilerico Project, Genderqueer Chicago, Straight and Gay Alliance Ministry, in addition to many other members of the broad Chicago-area rainbow community.
On Nov. 23 members from the across the spectrum of the city's LGBT communities will come together at the Center on Halsted for an informational conversation on transgender rights and the Hunter's Nightclub door policy. Illinois State Representative Greg Harris will moderate the meeting. Hunter's owners and managers were invited to this meeting, but have not responded to the invitation. Organizers are still calling on Hunter's representatives to participate in this discussion.
The meeting will commence with presentations by prominent third-party LGBT advocates on ID laws, as well as on the Illinois Human Rights Act. A discussion between transgender organizers, bar owners, and community members will follow.
