While on leave in Palm Springs ( where else? ) , he meets a young gay man who leads him on a path of better understanding. The movie has been praised by a variety of publications, including Slant Magazine and The Village Voice. Direct Damion Dietz has helmed several other movies, including Fag Hag ( 1998 ) and Neverland ( 2003 ) .

—It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown ( Sept. 2; $19.98 ) : You know the story: Charlie Brown gets rocks in his trick-or-treat bag, Linus awaits a visitation from the Great Pumpkin in his pumpkin patch ( while Sally sits with him ) , Snoopy falls asleep, Lucy harasses Schroeder and Pigpen kicks up a dust storm even beneath his costume in this classic TV broadcast.

—Itty Bitty Titty Committee ( Sept. 2; $27.95 ) : This latest fabulous movie from Jamie Babbit ( But I'm a Cheerleader ) features an ensemble cast that includes Melonie Diaz as the newcomer lesbian who falls in with a gang of feminist troublemakers called Clits in Action ( CiA ) , and then falls in love with leader of the pack, Nicole Vicius. Special features include a trailer and a behind-the-scenes featurette.

—The L Word, Season Five ( Oct. 28; $69.95 ) : The four-disc set of the groundbreaking show's fifth season includes more drama involving actors Marlee Matlin, Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig, Pam Grier and more. Among the extras are behind-the-scenes featurettes and the first two episodes of the second season of TV's 'The Tudors.'

—The Life Before Her Eyes ( already out; $26.98 ) : Based on the novel by Laura Kasischke, The Life Before Her Eyes stars Oscar nominee Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood. The Life Before Her Eyes hinges on a chilling, pivotal confrontation in which two high school girls, Diana and Maureen, deal with a life-and-death situation. Fifteen years later, as the elder Diana's life begins to unravel, the younger Diana gets closer to the pivotal moment, and a deeper mystery slowly unfolds. Special features include an alternate ending, commentary and deleted scenes.

—The Nightmare Before Christmas ( 2-Disc Collector's Edition ) ( already out; $32.99 ) : Now digitally restored and remastered with state-of-the-art technology, The Nightmare Before Christmas: Collector's Edition is deeper, darker and more brilliant than ever as Tim Burton originally envisioned. Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, longs to spread the joy of Christmas. This new version comes with DisneyFile Digital Copy, a full-length version of the movie viewers can transfer and watch on PCs, Macs and video-enabled compatible portable players.

—Oh Happy Day ( already out; $29.95 ) : The gay romantic comedy—which centers around two men who meet at a black-tie dinner and spend the night together at a London flat—is notable in that it is directed by Ian Poitier, kin of legendary Academy Award winner Sidney Poitier.

—Speed Racer ( pictured ) ( Sept. 16; $28.98 ) : In this movie that crashed and burned in the summer-blockbuster race, Emile Hirsch plays the title character, younger brother of a deceased racing legend, Rex, and son of car designer Pops ( John Goodman ) . Co-stars include Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and Matthew Fox.

—Andrew Davis
