(January 10, 2011) To enhance the creative practices of people who live and work in the city, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs will conduct an online survey at www.creativechicagosurvey.org beginning Feb. 4 and continuing through Feb. 25. The Creative Chicago Survey, the most comprehensive and widest reaching survey of its kind in Chicago, will invite all creative practitioners to describe who they are and what they need to thrive, including specific space and business assistance information.
The results will paint a useful portrait of the range of creative activity in Chicago and be a valuable resource to help the City and other agencies and service organizations create programs and policies to better support Chicago's creative sector and enable the creative community to better understand and advocate for itself.
Creative practices are any creative or artistic activities or work done as a job or hobby in any discipline. Actors, artists, architects, arts administrators, authors, chefs, church choir members, dancers, djs, fashion designers, musicians, and anyone else who considers themselves creative can take the survey.
The 2011 Survey is modeled after the 2000 Chicago Artists Survey, which led to the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs' development of www.ChicagoArtistsResource.org, an online resource directory created by artists for artists; the Creative Chicago Expo, co-sponsored by the Chicago Department of Housing and Economic Development, which offers resources and programs for artists in all disciplines and provides an intensive opportunity for artists to connect with peers and potential collaborators; and other innovative programs.
The survey, which will also be available in Spanish, will take about 15 minutes to complete. All information will remain anonymous and be kept confidential. Results of the survey will be presented at a public meeting later in the year and disseminated online. For questions and more information about the survey, contact Barbara Koenen at barbara.koenen@cityofchicago.org .
The Creative Chicago Survey is sponsored by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and conducted by Slover-Linett Strategies, a Chicago-based cultural research consultancy. |
