Apparently, the company known as Dean Foods has had a change of heart.
The business is now offering health benefits to same-sex partners of its employees.
Dean Foods, one of the nation's largest dairy companies, came under fire earlier this year for refusing to recognize the out-of-state marriage certificate of then-employee David Greer, a Chicago resident.
A company official informed him of the decision verbally but declined to put it in writing.
Greer married Lee Neubecker on Feb. 19 in San Francisco.
Amy Barker, head of corporate communications at the company's Dallas headquarters, confirmed the policy change. 'Although we can't comment on the issue, we are offering benefits for same-gender domestic partners,' Barker stated.
When informed of the news, Neubecker (who's covered under the policy at Greer's new job) saw hope for others.
'Hopefully, others will benefit from this,' he said. 'At least [Dean Foods] made the decision.'
