But in a nation founded on the promise of social mobility, the discussions engendered by their dilemma reflect an American experience crossing demographic lines. MSB.
Not Enough Air, TimeLine Theatre, through March 22. Using the expressionistic style of 1920's author Sophie Treadwell, this play examines Treadwell herself and her hit play Machinal, a break-through in the portrayal of women. It's an intriguing and very well-acted show. JA
Rouw siert Electra ( Mourning Becomes Electra ) , Toneelgroep Amsterdam at Goodman Theatre, through Feb. 28. Don't look for Valentine's Day schmaltz in this love story. The renowned Danish group distills Eugene O'Neill's adaptation of an Orestian tragedy down to its raw, hypersexualized and emotionally violent essence. CS
