Broadway veteran Gary Griffin directs a gloriously intimate and heartbreaking production that musicalizes Bechdel's life as a budding lesbian in contrast to her closeted gay dad's troubled existence. His Greatness, Pride Films and Plays at Pride Arts Center, through Nov 12. Canadian playwright Daniel MacIvor pays homage to Tennessee Williams in this tenderly romantic fictionalized account of the writer's final days. MSB
The Taming of the Shrew, Chicago Shakespeare Theater at Navy Pier, through Nov. 12. A band of sister suffragettes in gilded-age Chicago grapple with Shakespeare's problematic play and emerge triumphant in this exuberant adaptation. MSB
Quixote: On the Conquest of Self, Writers Theatre through Dec. 17. Henry Godinez as the mad knight, Don Quixote, is brilliant, skilled, assured, funny, physical and profound in this less-than-perfect 90-minute contemporary Mexican play with a sappy Peter Pan-ish ending. Godinez more than makes it worthwhile. JA
