Critics' Picks
Camelot, Drury Lane Theatre, Oakbrook Terrace, through Jan. 4. Director/choreographer Alan Souza shakes up the classic 1960 Lerner and Loewe musical with a welcome revisionist approach that emphasizes the show's sexuality and violence. SCM
Hot Georgia Sunday, Haven Theatre Company at the Den, through Dec. 21. On a sweaty Georgia Sunday anything can happen, and if Catherine Trieschmann's play stumbles in the end, you still won't find anything to sneer at in its characters' search for a few moments of petty happiness. MSB
Jet Black Chevrolet, The Side Project, through Dec. 21. Anxious parents wait up late speculating on their son's tardiness in returning home, while the government car standing at the curb likewise waits to deliver its message, both brought to a standstill by uncertainty in this early play by Scott Barsotti. MSB
Porgy and Bess, Lyric Opera of Chicago, through Dec. 20. This powerfully performed revival allows Chicago audiences to once again hear George Gershwin's original orchestrations for "The Great American Opera" with their full sweep and grandeur. SCM
